You can create these sunflower granny squares with just small amounts of yellow, orange, and brown yarn, along with any other colors you like, which makes them a great project for stash-busting.

We’re all familiar with the classic sunflower colors of brown and golden yellow, along with green leaves. But many of these projects—specifically the granny squares—also use a background color. This is where you can get creative!
For my sunflower grannies, I used rainbow of different colors. Other projects, like the sunflower tote bag, feature the sunflowers against a cream background, which gives the project a fresh, beachy look.
To make your sunflowers pop from the background, try a complementary color, like purple or blue, or dark color such as a black or brown yarn. Or for a more relaxed feel, you could border them with earthy browns and greens.
