Instant Pot jasmine rice is my super simple, no failmethod for making perfect jasmine rice every time. 👌🏻

This is about as basic as it gets, y’all. But I have seen and heard SO many people asking the best way to make jasmine rice in the Instant Pot. So I decided to document my tried and true method here!

Ingredients

First, gather your ingredients. To make Instant Pot jasmine rice, you will need the following:

  • water
  • dry jasmine rice

That’s it! Pretty simple.

How to make Instant Pot jasmine rice

Using a fine mesh strainer, rinse the rice well and drain.

Add the rinsed rice to the pot, along with an equal amount of water.

So how long do you cook jasmine rice in the Instant Pot? Cook on high manual pressure for 10 minutes.

Allow the pot to release naturally (Note: mine took about 9 minutes for 1 cup or rice, FYI. It may take slightly longer for 2 or 3 cups.)

Fluff with a fork and serve immediately.


Recipe tips

I like my rice much like the kind you get from a Chinese take-out restaurant – sightly sticky and soft but NOT gummy.

It really is very simple, but there are a few key steps that make ALLLLL the difference in the world.

  1. Be sure and RINSE your uncooked rice first. This removes some of the starchy residue and will prevent that gummy texture/ scorch.
  2. When it is cooked, turn off the “keep warm” setting to prevent sticking/ scorching to the bottom of the pot.

I have used this method for up to 3 cups (measured dry) jasmine rice, and it comes out perfect every time!

I will note that if you have an 8 quart model, I would go ahead and make at least two cups minimum. My model is a 6 quart, and mine will make 1 cup with no issues (shown in video above).

Also, this method is intended for white jasmine rice. Brown jasmine rice will have a longer cook time.

What is the ratio of water to rice for jasmine?

The ratio used to cook jasmine rice is 1:1. So use equal amounts water and rice.

How long do you cook jasmine rice in a rice cooker?

Jasmine rice cooks slightly quicker in the Instant Pot. I would estimate that my rice cooker takes about 35 to 40 minutes. The Instant Pot is quicker, even with time to pressure and natural release time.

Does jasmine rice have to be rinsed?

I highly recommend it, yes.

How do I use the rice button on my Instant Pot?

I have never used the rice button. This recipe works extremely well using high pressure.

Is jasmine rice and white rice the same?

Jasmine rice is a variety of white rice. There are many other varieties of white rice, including various short, medium and long grained varieties. Jasmine is our family’s favorite overall rice for everyday use.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked jasmine rice (I have used anywhere from 1 to 3 cups of rice. Just be sure and use an equal amount of water for a 1:1 ratio.)
  • 2 cups water

    I rinsed my jasmine rice and followed your directions with 4 cups of rice and 4 cups of water-and I got the burn notification (as usual).

      i wash rice and put equal parts of water and rice in an oven proof bowl then add i cup water to the pot put in trivet put in bowl of rice and water make sure the water covers the rice cook for 7 minutes natural release after then fulff with fork

      This is my go to recipe/set of instructions for making rice and continuing to ignore the rice button on my instant pot. For anyone who has sticking issues, try adding a thin coating of oil to your instant pot by putting in a few teaspoons/a tablespoon of oil and wiping along the bottom and sides of the instant pot vessel with a paper towel. You can also just add a few splashes to the rice and water mixture and give it a stir before starting the cooking process.

      I have an IP Duo Crisp 8 qt and I went by another recipe that said to use 1.25 C of water to 1C of rinsed rice. It came out perfect. I use the pressure cooker setting as the 8 at does not have a rice setting.

    I live above 9,000 ft. elevation. I’ve tried cooking rice for 10 minutes, 2 minutes, and even 3 minutes, but cannot get the desired consistency. One person told me to add 1/2 tsp. of salt; another said to add a little bit of butter, while another chef told me to increase the water by 1/4 – 1/2 cup. I have yet to make perfect rice! Can anyone help?? Thank you in advance for any/all assistance!

    Mine is cooking now, thus I can’t leave a star yet…. Anyway, my ip has a RICE setting but it’s only 15 min. IT seems you cannot change that time at all? I only tried to go down to 10, not up any higher. I have the 8qt DUO and LOVE it! I’m trying JAsmine for the first time. I only usually buy brown rice, for health reasons (white is like white bread, right?) BUT this time want the white kind.
