Joanita retired this design from her site and sold the full-pattern rights to Oombawka Design, Ltd. This pattern is now available exclusively at Oombawka Design Crochet. This pattern has been rewritten and updated.

Supplies
- Yarn: Light Worsted Weight / DK Weight Yarn [3]
- Colors: Cream, aqua, and yellow were used
- Crochet Hook: 3.50 mm (E)
- Finished project yardage: approximately 26 g of Light Worsted Weight Yarn
- Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker, 4 small buttons

Gauge
- Due to the nature of this pattern, the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion. Any Light Weight Yarn will provide similar results. Use the same yarn weight for all parts of the project.

Notes
- This is a great project to use up scrap yarn you have leftover from other projects.
- Your 3.50 mm (E) crochet hook is used for the entire project.
- I use a DMR (double magic ring) to begin my projects that are worked in rounds. You may substitute a magic ring (magic circle), or a chain 3 and slip to form a ring, if you prefer. See the alternate starting methods here.
- MC: cream, CC: aqua, CC2: yellow
- Initial ch 3 counts as 1 dc
- You can join new yarn colors with a slip stitch, or use a standing double crochet, or standing single crochet.

Granny Square Crochet Hook Case Pattern
A quick and easy booklet you can make to carry your crochet essentials when traveling. There’s room for your crochet hooks, stitch markers, yarn needles, paper and pen.
Using your 3.50 mm (E) crochet hook:
Small Solid Granny Squares
- Make 9 squares
- Each small solid granny square measures approximately 2.20 inches (5.5 cm) X 2.20 inches (5.5 cm) in size.
Rnd 1: With CC2: Create a DMR. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) and 2 dc in the DMR. *Ch 2, 3 dc in the DMR**. Work from * to ** 3 times. Sl st to the top of the initial ch 3 to join. Finish off CC2. [12 dc, 4 ch2sp]
Rnd 2: Join CC with a sl st in any corner ch2sp. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the first corner ch2sp. 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts. *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into the corner ch2sp, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the top of the initial ch 3 to join. Finish off CC. [28 dc, 4 ch2sp]
Rnd 3: Join MC with a sl st in any corner ch2sp, ch 1, and 3 sc in the corner ch2sp. 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts. *3 sc in the corner ch2sp, 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts**. Work from * to ** around. Sl st to the first st to join. Finish off MC. [40 sc]
Proceed to Making the Large Square
Making the Large Square
- Weave in your ends on the 9 granny squares.
- Create 3 rows of 3 granny squares and whipstitch them together using the yarn color of your choice.
Creating the Back of the Booklet
Join MC yarn with a slip stitch in the first stitch of the top row of the large square.
Ch 1 and make 32 sc evenly across the top row. Turn.
R2-R40: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st across. Turn. [32 sc]
Do not finish off. Proceed to the Border for the Booklet.
Border for the Booklet
Working across the sides of the rows (R40-R1 from Back of the Booklet):
R1: *1 sc and 1 hdc in the next row end, 2 dc in the next row end, 1 hdc and 1 sc in the next row end, 1 sl st in the next row end**. Work from * to ** until you reach the Large Square (where the granny squares are).
TIP: The space (whipstitch join section) between the granny squares will be worked as a stitch.
♥1 sc and 1 hdc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st, 1 hdc and 1 sc in the next st, 1 sl st in the next st♥♥. Work from ♥ to ♥♥ around the Large Square until you reach the Back of the Booklet R1-R40.
Work from * to ** up the side edges of the Back of the Booklet and from ♥ to ♥♥ across the top edge of the Back of the Booklet.
Finish off and weave in ends. Proceed to Hook Pocket.
Hook Pocket
R1: With CC, ch 31, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn. [30 sc]
R2-R15: 1 sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. [30 sc]
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing the Hook Pocket to the Back of the Booklet.
Sew the pocket to the back of the booklet. You may wish to make little stitches to create individual hook compartments. I did this along the top edge but you can do this down the entire length for each compartment if you wish.
Stitch Marker Strip
R1: With MC, ch 26, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn. [25 sc]
R2-R7: 1 sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. [25 sc]
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing the Stitch Marker Strip to the Back of the Booklet.
Using the photo as a guide, sew the Stitch Marker Strip to the Large Square.
Paper Strip
R1: With CC2, ch 26, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each rem ch across, ch 1, turn. [25 sc]
R2-R5: 1 sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. [25 sc]
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing the Paper Strip to the Back of the Booklet.
Using the photo as a guide, sew the Paper Strip to the Large Square.
Proceed to finishing instructions.
Finishing Instructions
- Weave in any remaining yarn ends.
- Sew the four decorative buttons to the front of the hook case.
- Optional: add a small tie to keep the booklet closed.
