Dollar Store Halloween DIY Ideas

Halloween is such a fun time to decorate and DIY because just about anything goes! You can find the best and cheap Halloween decorations at the dollar store, Target’s One Spot or by using materials that you already have lying around your home. I put together this post with 15 DIY Dollar Store Halloween Decorations so you can see how easy it is to decorate for Halloween while on a budget!

1. Halloween DIY Tea Towel Pillow Covers

These Halloween Pillows are actually made with… Dish towels from Target One Spot! These towels are $3 for a package of 2 which means that one package yield one pillow cover. I used a sewing machine to sew mine together but you could try hot glue, fabric glue, or hemming tape if you don’t have a sewing machine. I used Dollar Tree ribbon to on one open end so these pillow covers are removable!

  • Halloween Dish Towels (these are from Target One Spot)
  • Ribbon
  • Sewing machine or Fabric Glue/Hemming Tape

2. DIY Printable Dollar Tree Halloween Farmhouse Signs

Create your own farmhouse signs using Microsoft Word following this tutorial. I used Dollar Tree shadow box frames to DIY my own farmhouse signs. Most of my designs came from DesignBundles.net and I just printed on my printer at home and cut to size. I used double-sided tape in each corner to adhere to the shadow box frames.

3. DIY Halloween Doormat

Create your own Halloween Welcome mat by following this tutorial! I used a doormat from Ikea that was only $4.99! Use the free template in the tutorial or come up with your own image or text to DIY a Halloween doormat!

4. Dollar Tree Halloween Stamped Book Covers (Free Printables)

Farmhouse book covers are all the rage on Instagram and Simple Made Pretty makes it easy to decorate your home for any occasion using her printable Stamped Book Covers. Print and wrap around any book or DVD cases, then wrap with ribbon or twine. Sit these Halloween stamped books on a mantle, shelves, hutch or coffee table. The best part about these covers is they can be printed on any color paper!

5. Dollar Store Halloween Farmhouse Signs

This is a different way to make farmhouse signs but one of my favorite ways to make larger farmhouse signs. All you need is Dollar Tree foam board and 5-gallon Paint Sticks (99 cents at Home Depot or Lowes). I used my Cricut machine to cut my own images for my signs, but you could use Dollar Tree alphabet stickers or hand paint a design on your signs.

6. Cricut Cardstock Bats

These cardstock bats are the best and easiest Halloween decorations. I use them in my Halloween decorations every year! Store them flat in a folder or envelope and pull them out to use again next year. These bats were so popular they were featured in the Women’s World Magazine Halloween issue! Cut bats using a Cricut machine or cut by hand using the Free PDF template in my library!

7. DIY Rae Dunn Halloween Decorations

Rae Dunn has a special place in our home… not only because I like the look of her designs, but because her pottery is really good quality! That said, I still like to DIY my own holiday decals to use on the backside of my Rae Dunn mugs and other items in our home. If you like these decals, you can purchase them from my shop here.

8. Halloween Mini Rolling Pins

These Mini Rolling Pins are super cute to use on tiered trays and vignette decor for Halloween. I make the decals for them in my shop, which you can purchase here or if you have a Cricut machine, follow this tutorial to DIY them yourself!

8. DIY Halloween Dollar Tree Gnomes

If you haven’t made my Dollar Tree Gnomes yet, you need to! Go here to see the full tutorial 🙂 I added some cute Dollar Tree Halloween hats to my gnomes to dress them up for Halloween. One of the hats came off a Halloween headband from the Dollar Tree and the other came from a Halloween Pumpkin craft kit.

9. Double-Sided Fall/Halloween Wooden Banner

Earlier this Fall I made a Double-Sided Halloween banner using Dollar Tree supplies. One side said “BOO” and the other side said “Fall.” I used this banner in my Halloween decor and Fall decor! Go here to see the full tutorial!

10. Dollar Tree Halloween Houses (Free Printables)

These little wooden Dollar Treehouses were hard to find this year. If you were lucky enough to find them, then you NEED to print the free printable inserts that I made for them! You can find several colors available to print for Free in my private library. I printed orange, green, and purple buffalo plaid inserts in my Dollar Treehouses to easily update my Halloween decor. I painted my houses with Charcoal Chalked Paint (Rustoleum).

11. Dollar Tree DIY Hocus Pocus Spell Book

One of my favorite DIY YouTuber’s Bargain Bethany shared a tutorial on how to make a replica of the Hocus Pocus Spell Book. I had to make that book! I found the perfect large book at my local thrift store and used her technique with toilet paper, mod podge, a glue gun, and paint. I cut a plastic ball from the Dollar Tree in half and painted the eye on.

12. Hocus Pocus Black Flame Candle

Another DIY from Bargain Bethany was to make the famous Black Flame candle that was also in the movie Hocus Pocus. It was really easy to find a printable label through a Google search, print, cut, and tape to a battery-operated candle.

14. Free Printable Buffalo Plaid Banner

I made these Rae Dunn Inspired Halloween Pumpkins a couple of years ago and they still look great in our Halloween decor! Rae Dunn has a special place in our home… not only because I like the look of her designs, but because her pottery is really good quality!
