The Summer Vibes Crop top is perfect paired with jeans, shorts or is perfect worn under a cardigan in the cooler evenings. It really is a must have to any wardrobe.

This crop top features a thick stretchy ribbed band using many rows of back loop single crochet while the main body of the top uses easy half double crochet. While this pattern does not give exact stitch counts for each size, it does provide you with easy steps to follow giving you your perfect customisable size.

I state in the pattern that I used a weight 2 or sport yarn but you are free to use any yarn weight and hook that you like. This pattern is created so you can make the top to fit your own body and shape hence why I do not give exact stitch counts.

YARN

A big thank you to Hobbii for providing me with this lovely yarn.

The Summer Vibes Crop Top uses Hobbii Rainbow Bamboo in shades Natural White and Curry. It is a weight 2 yarn that uses a blend of bamboo viscose and cotton giving it a beautiful feel and stunning stitch definition. The bamboo fibres in the yarn are very strong and adds extra durability to the cotton.

RIBBED BAND

Using the 3.5mm crochet hook

Ch 21

ROW 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch to end. Turn.

ROW 2: ch 1, sc in BLO in each st across. Turn

Repeat row 2 until the band is long enough to go around your under bust. Keep a log of this number of rows as it will be important later!

Slst the two ends together to form a circular band. Turn the band the right side out so the seam is in the inside.

Main body

So I asked you earlier to keep a log of the number rows of back loop single crochet it took you to reach around your under bust, right? So now you need to hdc that same number around the top of the band. So if it took you 120 rows to form your ribbed band, you will now make 120 hdc evenly around the top of the band. So…

ROUND 1: Ch 1 (not counted as st here or throughout) hdc around top of band. Then slst to first hdc to close the round at the end. TURN. This is very important that you turn your work for EVERY round. Why? Because you are working in rounds of hdc now, and later we will be parting the top and working in rows. If we do not turn the stitches worked in the round will look slightly different than the stitches worked in straight rows. Trust me!

ROUND 2: ch 1 hdc in each st around making sure you count your stitches correctly. Slst to first hdc to close round. TURN.

Rep round 2 until the main body portion covers the majority of your chest. Add more rounds here for more coverage if needed or do less rounds if you want a deeper v neckline. Make sure you TURN when last round is completed. Do not fasten off.

So now we will be sectioning off the top so…

Grab a stitch marker and divide the number of stitches you have by 2. Place stitch marker in that stitch.

So for me my initial st count was 120 hdc, so dividing that by 2 is 60. I marked the 60th st. Then divide that number again by 2. For me that’s 60 divided by 2 = 30. I marked the 30th st. This 30th st is the middle of the front of your top.

NEXT ROW: ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc in each st across until you reach the 2nd st before the nearest st marker (the middle st). You should now have one st and the st with the st marker, hdc2tog. Turn.

NEXT ROW: ch 1, hdc in each st across. Turn.

NEXT ROW: ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc in each st across until 2 sts remain, hdc2tog. Turn.

NEXT ROW: ch 1, hdc in each st across. Turn.

Repeat last 2 rows until 3 sts remain.

NEXT ROW: ch 1, hdc in each of the next 3 sts. Turn.

Repeat last row until the strap measures 7 inches. Fasten off leaving long tail. You can add or subtract rows here for a longer or shorter strap.

Now to work on the other “triangle”.

Attach yarn to the next available st beside the other “triangle”.

ROW 1: ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc in each st across until 2 sts remain (2nd last st and the st with the other stitch marker), hdc2tog. Turn.

ROW 2: ch 1, hdc in each st across. Turn.

ROW 3: ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc in each st across until 2 sts remain, hdc2tog. Turn.

ROW 4: ch 1, hdc in each st across. Turn.

Rep last 2 rows until 3 sts remain.

NEXT ROW: ch 1, hdc in each of next 3 sts. Turn.

Rep last row until strap measures 7 inches long. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Next we work on the back of the top! Flip the top over so the back is facing you. Attach your yarn to the next available st towards the right hand corner.

NEXT ROW: ch 1, hdc2tog, hdc in each st across until 2 sts remain, hdc2tog. Turn.

NEXT ROW: ch 1 hdc in each across. Turn.

Rep last 2 rows until the back section is the same height as the front, right before you started working the rows for the straps. Do not fasten off. Turn.

NEXT ROW: ch 1 hdc in next 3 sts. Turn.

Rep last row until strap measures 7 inches. Fasten off. No need to leave long tail.

Now with the back still facing you, count 3 sts in from the other side and attach yarn.

NEXT ROW: ch 1, hdc in each of the next 3 sts. Turn.

Rep last row until strap measures 7 inches. Fasten off. No need to leave long tail.

Turn your top wrong side out and with a yarn need and the tail on your strap sew one of the front straps to one of the back straps. Rep on the other side. Now turn your top right side out and you are now finished your top. Wear it with pride and enjoy!
