💛 Why you’ll love these cookies
These cookies are loaded with delicious chocolate chunks, wholesome oats, and are so easy to make too!
📋 Ingredients needed
For these cookies, you will need:
- All purpose flour: The base of the cookie dough.
- White sugar and brown sugar: To sweeten the cookies. I used dark brown sugar but light brown sugar also works.
- Baking soda: To help the cookies rise.
- Salt: You’ll need just half of a teaspoon of salt.
- Oats: Use old fashioned or quick oats for this recipe.
- Eggs: You’ll need two large eggs for this recipe.
- Vanilla extract: If possible, I recommend that you use pure vanilla extract.
- Butter: I recommend using unsalted butter for baking. The amount of salt varies brand to brand when you use salted butter and I think it is much easier to control the amount of salt going into your recipe this way. Salted butter also usually contains more water than unsalted butter.
- Chocolate chunks: I probably go to the grocery store more than a normal person as a food blogger and I hardly ever see chocolate chunks at my local stores. If you can’t find chocolate chunks, chocolate chips will work just fine in this recipe.
👩🏻🍳 How to make these cookies (step by step guide)
Soften your butter to room temperature.
In a large mixing bowl, combine your dry ingredients (flour, sugar, brown sugar, salt, baking soda, and oats). Stir well with a large spoon (image 1).
Next, add in your wet ingredients (softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract). Mix well with a hand or stand mixer until everything is well combined (image 2). The dough may seem crumbly but this is normal.
Stir in the chocolate chunks (or chocolate chips) with a large spoon (image 3).
Cover and let chill for at least one hour in your refrigerator. Once chilled, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Add very large cookie dough balls (about ¼ cup) to a greased or parchment paper (not wax paper) lined baking sheet. Leave room for the cookies to spread some.
Bake for 13 to 17 minutes at 350 degrees. Let them rest on the baking tray for at least 10 minutes before transferring.
🍪 Tips
- Be sure to chill your cookie dough or the cookies may come out too flat.
- You can either grease prepared cookie sheets or use parchment paper (NOT wax paper).
- If you can’t find milk chocolate chunks, chocolate chips will work just fine in this recipe.
- Make sure your oven is fully preheated before baking the cookies.
🥡 How to store these cookies
Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container. They will be good for up to four days after baking.
💭 Recipe FAQs
What kind of cookie does Chick-fil-A use?
Chick-fil-A has a chocolate chunk cookie that is also loaded with wholesome oats. They are thick, soft, and a little chewy too!
Why are chocolate chip cookies flat?
The butter is too warm or you did not chill the dough long enough.
Are Chick-fil-A cookies soft or hard?
They are soft cookies.
How do you make cookies fluffy instead of flat?
Chilling your dough will help your cookies be fluffy and not flat. Make sure you measure your flour accurately as well. Too little flour can cause flat cookies.
