Those are Spring months, but when there’s a foot of snow on the ground, it’s hard to get in the “springtime” mood, am I right? That’s why I’ve compiled this super fun collection of spring sewing projects that will help us get through these chilly, gloomy months.

What Can I Sew for Easter?
Easter is the first holiday that truly radiates springtime vibes, and many of us like to make crafts and create sewing projects for the home during this time. It’s also around this time that fabric stores are bringing in their new gorgeous colorful fabrics for Spring and Summer.
Gift-giving is a big deal to some during Easter, and you can make so many things for your loved ones during Easter. Here are a few ideas of items you can sew for Easter:
- Quilts
- Quilted items such as table runners, placemats, baskets, etc.
- Easter baskets
- Fabric Easter eggs (a big hit for the kids!)
- Other gifts for Easter baskets

What Can I Sew When I’m Bored?
Let’s be honest with ourselves here. Before the weather warms up and the gloom lifts from the skies, it can be pretty dull. It’s not nice enough to go outside, and we’ve already done all the fun activities we can think to do inside.
I would LOVE to encourage you to try something new during this time. If you’ve never tried quilting, why not try it? Ever tried making a handbag? It’s easier than you might think, especially if you use a well-written pattern.
Springtime is a time of new beginnings, and this would be a great time to try out a new sewing skill. I’m personally going to try to learn how to hand quilt this Spring. I’ve been a quilter for years, but I’ve never tried quilting by hand, so this is the perfect time to try.
Here are a few other ideas for things you can sew when you’re bored:

- Clothing (from scratch or try your hand at tailoring or embellishing)

Felt is one of those materials that is sometimes overlooked and not considered when sewing is involved. It might be viewed as a “children’s crafts” material, but you can make beautiful spring sewing projects using felt. Here are five free felt sewing projects to show you what is possible with this fun and versatile fabric.
How gorgeous is this dainty little felt egg? This is a free tutorial + pattern from ETM Designs, and it is the perfect way to try out sewing with felt and doing some simple yet elegant hand embroidery. She gives a complete materials list, written instructions, and a printable pattern to cut the eggs and mark them for embroidery.
Oh my goodness, these little mice are adorable! This is a free tutorial and pattern from Ann Wood Handmade, and she has done an excellent job writing an easy-to-follow tutorial to make these cute little mice. This is a fun project for anyone wanting to try hand sewing.
Here is a super simple frog felt project from Molly and Mama that is perfect for doing with the kids. The tutorial also comes with a printable template that you can use to cut out the frog shapes. This is a great beginner sewing project; you could make several of these cute little frogs in less than an hour.
This free tutorial + printable letter templates are a fantastic find, and I’ll tell you why. You could use these letters for so many different projects. You could create a complete alphabet for a small child. You could create letters for a banner or glue them to a piece of wood and hang them on the wall for decoration. The possibilities are endless.
I may be a little too excited about this free tutorial; I mean, come on! Look how cute this is! This is a free tutorial and pattern from the talented Carol of Crafters Boutique. She gives detailed instructions and photos of each step to help us make this adorable mushroom cottage. I can’t wait to make one!

10 Spring Project Ideas for Beginner Sewists
Now, I want to show you some beautiful and unique sewing projects for spring. I tried my best to find a good mix of free and paid tutorials and patterns, so there is something here for everyone, no matter your budget.
Here is an excellent free tutorial for making a knee pad for gardening, though you could use the knee pad for several situations. Since this is meant to be used on the ground outside, the maker used oilcloth so it won’t get soiled…by the soil…see what I did there? Haha Anyways, this is a great beginner project, and I may just need to make one for myself for my garden this year.
Here is a super cute and fun project from The Stitching Scientist. She has created a free printable pattern to accompany this tutorial to create a 15” plush flower power pillow.
These cute little tulips are a simple and fun project to do over the weekend. This free tutorial is detailed and includes video instructions on how to make tulips from fabric and fleece. You could use these flowers on a wreath, vase, or other home decor project.
This beautiful pillow is a simple and quick project that uses quilting cotton and felt. It is a free beginner-friendly tutorial that you can make in just a few hours and would make a lovely gift. The instructions are for a 16” x 16” pillow, but you could use the flower templates to make a more oversized pillow.
If you want to dabble in quilting but making an entire quilt sounds a bit too daunting right now, why not try your hand at a smaller quilted project like a pillow cover? This is an excellent free tutorial by Nadra of Ellis and Higgs, and she breaks down each step to make this adorable pillow cover.
